Community Housing Capital (CHC) is certified as a community development financial institution (CDFI) and a community development entity (CDE) by the U.S. Treasury’s CDFI Fund.

As a national CDFI, CHC aggregates loan capital to finance the creation and preservation of affordable housing. To fulfill its mission, CHC provides acquisition, construction, and permanent multifamily and single-family loans, directly and exclusively, to the high-performing, nonprofit developers of the NeighborWorks® Network.

The 245 community-based nonprofits of this network have a mission to develop affordable housing and improve their communities. They acquire vacant land or under-utilized/obsolete properties that can be developed into affordable multifamily homes. Some create and preserve single-family housing ranging from individual homes scattered throughout neighborhoods to entire subdivisions. NeighborWorks Network developers acquire properties with market rents already low enough to be affordable to low-income households and rehabilitate and convert others into affordable housing. Some acquire currently subsidized properties with expiring income restrictions so that they are no longer at risk of being converted to market-rate housing (which is often unaffordable for existing residents).

CHC levers grant funds provided by NeighborWorks® America and the CDFI Fund to attract private-sector debt capital from banks and socially motivated investors. This public and private collaboration allows CHC to provide the flexible, attractive financing options that these complex projects require.
